9 Best Changes Stephen King Movies Made From The Books

1. The Twist Ending - The Mist

Misery Not In The Book
MGM

The Mist is one of King's works that is better remembered for its adaptation than the novella that it's based upon.

The Mist's concept is a powerfully unsettling one: what if malevolent beings were hiding in the mist?

After becoming trapped in a supermarket, a group of people are terrorised by otherworldly creatures hiding inside the eerie weather front. The book sees a small group escape and head off in the uncertain hope of reaching safety outside of the mist.

The 2007 movie of the same name, however, added in a brilliantly sadistic twist ending that is without a doubt the best change made to a book-to-movie adaptation.

Instead of the ambiguous and tentatively optimistic ending to the story, the survivors give in to their hopelessness and decide that it is best to commit suicide. Protagonist David kills his fellow survivors, including his son, only for the mist to dissipate enough for him to see the U.S. Army fighting the monsters back and rescuing survivors.

The movie ends with David's screams as he realises exactly what he's just done.
