9 Big Questions After Comic-Con 2018
6. How Close To Episode III Will The Clone Wars Get?
In a year where practically no Star Wars news was expected, fans actually wound up getting quite the surprise. At the tenth-anniversary panel for The Clone Wars animated series, creator Dave Filoni premiered a trailer announcing that the show would return for one final season.
Fresh off of the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels, Filoni is returning to his original work to finally finish what was started so many years ago, which brings up a great many questions. But perhaps most importantly of all is the question of just how close this final season will get to the events of Episode III.
Set in-between the events of Episode II and III, The Clone Wars has always told the story of not only the Clones themselves but also Anakin and Obi-Wan's role in the war. In the now non-canon Tartakovsky's Clone Wars animated series, the final episodes brought the narrative right up to the start of Episode III, with Chancellor Palpatine being taken by General Grievous.
Considering that Episode III's opening sequence is centered entirely around Anakin and Obi-Wan retrieving Palpatine from Grievous' clutches, this flowed naturally into the film. It will be very interesting to see just how close Filoni's narrative gets to Episode III and exactly how he'll use the final twelve episodes to finish the story.
