9 Big Questions After Comic-Con 2018

2. Will Aquaman Be Any Good?

The other big trailer that DC premiered at Comic-Con was for James Wan's Aquaman. And while Shazam!'s trailer was pretty stellar, Aquaman's is... a bit more mixed.

Wan has teased in the past and reiterated again on stage that the film is less a standard superhero film and more a science-fiction/fantasy action-adventure film, in the vein of Raiders of the Lost Ark or Romancing the Stone. And the trailer certainly sells that light-hearted adventure tone, but it also features more than its fair share of clunky moments.

An early look at a flashback sequence where a young Arthur gets bullied at an aquarium felt more like a scene from Sharkboy & Lavagirl, the effects were laughably underwhelming at times, and a lot of the humor once again felt poorly timed. Momoa looks to be having a blast but the trailer does little more to sell audiences on his version of the character than Justice League did.

Wan and co. also debuted even more footage at Comic-Con that has yet to be released online and reactions to that were very similar to the trailer itself; it's fun but overall just feels off.
