9 Biggest Movies Coming Out In July 2018
2. Ant-Man And The Wasp
2018 is going to be a big year for Marvel Studios with Black Panther in February and Infinity War in May, but the company is wrapping up their slate next year with something a little lighter. Ant-Man was a fun diversion from the usual world-at-stake storylines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp should hopefully be a fun respite from whatever earth-shattering drama unfolds with the arrival of Thanos a few months prior.
As the title suggests, the film will see Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne finally adopt the mantle of The Wasp after the mid-credits tease in the prior instalment. It's going to be another year before Marvel's first female-led film Captain Marvel drop, but to get a prominent woman of Marvel working alongside her usual compatriot is still a good step forward.
Hopefully, Ant-Man and the Wasp will also see the question of Janet van Dyne's fate finally answered, with various casting rumours suggesting Sharon Stone or Michael Douglas' wife Catherine Zeta-Jones taking on the role, but only time will tell.
With director Peyton Reed back in the director's chair, it'll be interesting to see what he cooks up on his own after repurposing the first film from the pieces Edgar Wright left behind in his departure. What heist could Scott Lang and Hank Pym be cooking up next? What uses of shrinking and growing could be put to use in new and inventive action sequences? And how many more times can they use Michael Pena's storytelling gag before it gets old?
