9 Blatant Lies Filmmakers Told To Keep Their Movies Unspoiled

1. Christoph Waltz Swore He Wasn't Playing Blofeld

The Bond series strikes again. When Christophe Waltz was cast in Spectre the title alone was a strong hint that he would be playing Blofeld, but when his character€™s name was revealed it was Franz Oberhauser instead who was said to be a shadowy figure from Bond€™s past. Again this seemed likely to be a cover for a "shocking" Blofeld reveal. After all, it made perfect sense to cast an actor of Waltz€™s calibre in the part of Bond€™s most iconic villain. Waltz denied the rumour outright in every interview prior to release, bluntly stating €œThat is absolutely untrue. I'm Franz Oberhauser€. People's suspicions were proven correct when the movie finally revealed that yes, Oberhauser was indeed Blofeld. Although it didn't end there; the filmmakers tweaked his backstory further so that he and Bond were actually foster brothers for a couple of years when they were boys, which feels like a contrived detail. It was all incredibly obvious, and the lying seems particularly egregious. Waltz was just trying to preserve the surprises of the movie before release, of course, but he could have found a more thoughtful answer than outright fibbing about it. Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
