9 Changes Warner Bros Wishes It Could Make To Its DC Universe

4. Make The Joker Suicide Squad’s Main Villain

Many of Suicide Squad’s biggest problems came in the editing room where scenes were mercilessly hacked to shreds at the behest of meddling studio execs, but there are easy fixes for some of its other issues, such as the lack of a compelling villain.

There was nothing particularly memorable about Cara Delevingne's Enchantress, and it was disappointing when she turned out to be the movie’s main antagonist once all of the cards were on the table, especially since there was a stronger candidate for that role among its cast.

Jared Leto’s Joker was largely squandered in Suicide Squad, with the movie failing to justify his inclusion at every turn. He was given little to do beyond abuse Harley Quinn in flashback sequences, and most of that ended up on the cutting room floor, much to the actor’s chagrin.

The Joker was shoehorned into the film purely because Warner gave director David Ayer the greenlight to use the character. This is one of the most infamous villains in comic book history, not a supporting character who hovers around aimlessly on the periphery.

Had Ayer used the Clown Prince as his primary antagonist and explored his insanity on a deeper level, more fans would surely have flocked to the cinema to see what happens when a band of rag-tag villains squares off against the most unpredictable rogue in the Batman gallery.
