9 Classic Stephen King Movie Villains Who Chill You To The Bone

3. Randall Flagg - The Stand (1994)

A terrible incident in a Texan laboratory leads to a superflu being released, with 99% of the world succumbing, leaving the 1% left to try and pick up the pieces of what civilisation is remaining. Put basically, the survivors are drawn to either two people: Mother Abagail - a very old compassionate and spiritual woman who resides on a farm in Nebraska - or the sinister Randall Flagg, who is based in glittery Las Vegas. So there are two camps - one good and one definitely bad; Randall Flagg is a depraved despot who rules his kingdom with an iron fist and has a penchant for war mongering. Randall is the very embodiment of Satanic wickedness, wanting to obtain a nuclear bomb in order to destroy the opposing camp. When he shows his true demonic face, Flagg is terrifying compared to his quite handsome human persona. Flagg is a recurring figure in Stephen King's novels, and believed by the author to be the best villain he's created (which is probably why he has recycled him so much). In the miniseries King lobbied successfully for a lesser known actor to play the role, and got Jamey Sheridan who certainly throws himself into the part with villainous abandon.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
