In all fairness to Nicolas Cage, nobody can fault his passion or commitment the Ghost Rider cause. He even has a Johnny Blaze tattoo etched into his skin.
The problem with the ghoulish anti-hero’s two big screen outings lies in Sony Pictures’ decision to treat Ghost Rider like a C-list property, little more than trashy, mindless fun.
Anyone who’s read the relevant source material will know the character deserved better, and a cameo appearance by the Robbie Reyes incarnation in Marvel's Agents of Shield has done little to rectify that.
Ghost Rider would be another welcome addition to the MCU now the rights have returned to Marvel - the movie universe has already gone through technological, cosmic and mystical phases, so why not horror?
The stuntman-turned-vengeful-spirit could be the vanguard of supernatural elements in the MCU, paving the way for other characters like Blade to one day enter the fold.
