Both Marvel and DC’s movie divisions are finally embracing girl power, with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel both making the list of most exciting coming attractions.

Hopefully this will pave the way for more iconic heroines to make the jump to the silver screen and Supergirl has to be a prime candidate on the DC side of the fence.

Melissa Benoist's TV incarnation of Kara Zor-El has already wiped the forgettable Helen Slater-fronted movie from our memories - it's a show with a lot of heart that never relies on the presence of Kara's more famous cousin to compel.

The success of Supergirl on TV could pave the way for the character to wing her way back to Hollywood in the future, although the time to do this is after the final season of the TV show has aired, whenever that happens be.

When Warner Bros announced that Ezra Miller's Flash was speeding his way to its Justice League project, it felt undermining to fans of the Grant Gustin TV show, as though he had been relegated to a B-team version of the pacey superhero.

However, providing her transition was handled more sensitively, Supergirl could one day be a major player and a key ally for the Man of Steel in the DC movie universe.
