Despite being a prominent producer since the late 1970s, it wasn't until 1993 that Rob Cohen directed his first movie. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story was a biographical drama starring Jason Scott Lee that charted the life of one of the most influential martial artists of all time. Praise was given for a pitch-perfect lead performance and for imbuing the movie with the spirit of Bruce Lee's own short-lived output.

Having directed nearly ten movies since then, Cohen's career flat-lined almost completely following his debut. With lows such as The Skulls and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, critics observed a level of 'basic ineptitude' in almost all of his work.

However, Cohen was responsible for directing 2001's The Fast And The Furious. Despite a lukewarm critical response, audiences enjoyed the high-octane thrill ride and the series has since spawned eight sequels and one spin-off movie, with more on the way. While his first movie may be the only one in his resume that could be considered 'good cinema', there's something to be said for the joy the franchise that he helped begin has brought people. With Cohen at the helm of a new movie, Speedhunters, there's every chance he'll be doing that again sooner than later.
