9 Divisive Movies That Should've Been TV Shows
8. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
One Upon A Time In Hollywood is the latest and penultimate film from legendary director, Quentin Tarantino. It's another masterclass in acting, pacing, humour, dialogue, and character development. And, despite having a three hour runtime, it seems the movie could have been so much longer.
If you've seen the film, you'll know that Charles Manson, for example, actually plays an extremely small role. Manson's part in the movie amounts to one scene that lasts around two minutes. Well, actor Damon Herriman recently told Entertainment Weekly that "He [Tarantino] did cut quite a lot out of the film." Herriman went on to say that he had more scenes that were lighter in tone.
It's unclear exactly what was cut, or how much, but suffice to say the three hour runtime may have been conservative in hindsight. Tarantino has recently discussed an interest in moving to television and one has to wonder just how much better the story could have been told across a 10 episode series.
With seven more hours we could have saw more of Cliff Booth's backstory, more of Rick Dalton's acting gigs, more of the family, and a lot more about Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski. It's a crying shame.
