9 Divisive Movies That Should've Been TV Shows

1. The Dark Tower

Once Upon A Time On Netflix
Warner Bros.

The Dark Tower was such a missed opportunity. The long-gestating film based on the popular Stephen King book series had all the makings of something special, with a decent budget, and Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elbas as leads.

However the movie was boring and damn near incomprehensible to those uninitiated with the book series. The 95 minute film took the bizarre approach of not adapting the first novel in the series, but instead serving as a continuation of them, but also plucking elements from all eight books. It made little to no sense and can only be described as a disaster.

However that doesn't mean there isn't something there worth exploring. In fact, the Dark Tower books would make for a fantastic TV series, and truth be told that's really the only way it could be done justice.

Whether it's Netflix, Amazon Prime, or a random TV channel, a big-budget series based on the Dark Tower could be special, but it would also have to be coherent for general audiences. That means adapting the first book and nothing else, which is a far more understandable path to take than what was done with the movie.
