9 Dumbest Weapons In Sci-Fi Movies

8. L.O.O.K.E.R Gun (Looker)

The problem with being a writer as prolific and active as Michael Crichton was is that for every Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park, there's always at least one Looker.

Setting aside the problems with the story of Looker and how it handles its themes of society's narrow definitions of success and beauty, let's instead zero in on the murder weapon of this sci-fi murder mystery: the L.O.O.K.E.R gun.

This gun is used by the killer to hunt down his victims. It emits pulses of light that do pretty much whatever the plot needs it to. From hypnotizing its targets, to making the user appear invisible, to just straight up blinding people, this story was clearly way more interested in making the acronym work than figuring out what it concretely does.

The biggest reason this gun is on the list? The killer wants to expose society's hypocrisies and prejudices when it comes to physical appearance. But the gun's abilities don't really reflect that. At least, not in a way that justifies using a hypno ray instead of a normal bullet shooting gun to kill your victims.

There are way easier ways to get points like this across, dude, killers in murder mysteries have been doing it for years.
