9 Dumbest Weapons In Sci-Fi Movies

6. Rocket Hammer (Alita: Battle Angel)

The downside to knowing more about weapons and weapon design is that you immediately notice when a weapon in a science fiction or fantasy movie was designed without once consulting the rather pertinent question of "wait can a person ACTUALLY use this?"

The rocket hammer from Alita Battle Angel seems like a good idea at first, it's just a hammer with a spike on one end and a rocket for extra impact on the other. But besides taking away an entire side of your weapon for the sake of a POTENTIALLY more devastating hit, everything about its design is impractical.

For one, the haft is way too damn long to do for Dr. Dyson what a haft should be doing for him: providing leverage. It's so long that it becomes a liability, especially - as a random example - in a cramped alley against two more agile opponents. There doesn't seem to be a way to control how fast the rocket goes, so what's stopping it from taking your arm off?

I admire James Cameron for sticking so close to the source material, especially given the track record of Hollywood anime adaptations, but like the Green Goblin suit or the hair of your average anime protagonist, some things work better on a page than on the screen.
