9 Famous Film Directors Who Have Lost Their Touch (That We All Pretend Are Still Awesome)

5. Sir Ridley Scott

Oh Ridley Scott... what happened to you? The brilliant director behind such classic, beloved films as Alien, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and Blade Runner is equally responsible for Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood, and The Counselor (easily his worst film). I'm a fan of Prometheus, but I know a lot of people hated that movie - and it's easy to see why when you compare it to Alien.

Like many directors of his generation, Scott peaked young and then lost a bit of his initial spark along the way. He's often lauded as one of the great Hollywood directors, but really, how many great movies has he made? Sure, each of his films are works of art, never lacking a unique and often breathtaking visual flare, but the man needs to learn how to pick better screenplays. It's also a bad sign that as he moves forward, he's choosing projects like Monopoly (yep, based on the board game), Prometheus 2 and a Blade Runner prequel/reboot/sequel/who-knows-what-the-hell-it-is.
