9 Famous Films Which Were Plagued By Ugly Lawsuits

5. Captain Phillips (2013)

A film about the titular Captain Phillips and his fight against Somali pirates in 2009. Generally agreed to be a very taut and tense film, and starring Tom Hanks as the heroic Captain, the film has run into legal problems over its authenticity. Painted in the film as a man who would do anything to avoid hijackings, his crew have stated that Phillips deliberately entered pirate infested waters to save time and money and also against all advice to the dangers that lurked off the African coastline. The lawsuit against the film charges that the Navy and crew members were the true heroes, not the Captain. It was put into action by nine members of the ship crew and it basically states that Captain Phillips is a fraud and it is asking for untold monetary damages which include the physical and emotional damages incurred during the actual pirate farrago. If they are successful, Hollywood will look pretty stupid in glorifying Captain Phillips.
