9 Famous Pieces Of Movie Trivia Everybody Believes (That Are Totally Wrong)

4. The Wampa Attack Was Designed To Hide Mark Hamill's Scars

It’s well known Mark Hamill was involved in a nasty car accident shortly after filming the original Star Wars and had to have some reconstructive surgery on his face. Because of this fans have long believed the Wampa attack in The Empire Strikes Back, where the creature savages Luke, was added to explain why he looked slightly different in the sequel.

The logic is solid, but again that’s not the case. Hamill himself has said in numerous interviews the Wampa attack was always part of the script, and when he asked George Lucas about it on set he denied Hamill’s injuries had any bearing on the scene.

Lucas himself said the same during a commentary for Empire and, while he has a bad habit of rewriting history to his liking, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
