9 Films DC Should Make Before Flashpoint
4. Menace Of The Reverse-Flash
This classic comic from Flash's back catalog of greatest hits is about as perfect of a primer as you can possibly get for Flashpoint.
The story involves Barry traveling into the future to follow a time capsule that houses one of his suits and an atomic clock, which they realize too late will be converted into an atomic bomb by the time travel process. Because, you know, comics.
When he arrives in the 25th century, he finds a world very different from his own and has to face the nefarious villainy of one Eobard Thawne. Using the Flash suit that Barry had put into the time capsule, Thawne is able to recreate Barry's speedster powers gift them to himself. Inevitably, the two face off in a thrilling game of cat and mouse.
What makes this storyline such an essential Flash story is the way in which Barry is ultimately forced to deal with the consequences of his own actions. It was his choice to put one of his suits in the time capsule, making Reverse-Flash a direct result of Barry's own hubris. This is precisely why DC should be making this film before Flashpoint. It sets up the basis for the consequences of Barry's own choices in time traveling, effectively planting the seeds that would grow into Flashpoint.
(Side note: A Flash trilogy starting with Terminal Velocity, having Menace as its second installment, and Flashpoint as its trilogy-capper would be amazing DC. Why aren't you doing this?)
