4. Skyfall: James Bond Is Really A Codename

If you thought the James Bond series rebooted each time they measured a new actor up for the tux, you're wrong, according to this theory.

Scores of fans believe that 'James Bond 007' is actually a codename assigned to a group of elite agents with a license to kill, solving the series' continuity problem.

This theory has been doing the rounds for a while, but there was an interesting spin on it when Skyfall was released in 2012. You'd think the shot of 007's parents' graves with 'Bond' etched on the headstones would dispel the codename idea, but nope.

Some fans believe that James is actually brainwashed, conditioned to be the perfect government-sanctioned killing machine and doesn't realise Bond is a codename.

They point to the villainous Silva laughing at the the Bond gravestones as evidence supporting this claim. Javier Bardem's character is apparently amused at the lengths M has gone to in order to preserve the 007 secret.

For epic Bond marathons free of continuity issues, subscribe to this theory.
