9 Forgotten '80s Movies That You've Probably Never Heard Of
9. The Stuff (1985)
Killer ice cream. Yes, you read that right. "The Stuff" was a surprisingly enjoyable (for a movie about killer ice cream) little horror film that chronicled the rise and fall of then movie America's favourite fat free dessert treat, which turned out to actually be a sentient parasitic organism which not only took over your brain but caused a mutation not unlike that found in zombie films, before eventually eating you out from the inside. I have personally mentioned this movie and its title to just about everyone I have ever met if they too classed themselves as "film aficionados" or the conversation turned towards a similar subject. And every single time I am met with a blank stare or a resounding "what?" Considering it stars veteran actors Paul Sorvino (of original Law and Order fame), Garrett Morris (you may know him as Earl from "2 Broke Girls") and Danny Aiello (Do the Right Thing, Leon) I am kind of surprised it hasn't found a more prominent place in the history of film culture. Now, I don't know how popular this may or may not have been back when it was released but nowadays I am under the impression that maybe I was the only person in history to ever see this obscure little homage to movies like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." As quite literally I have met no one else in my 36 years of existence outside of a small country town that has seen this tale of dietary supplement induced madness. Although I can understand why as the concept of "killer ice cream" may not have resonated among the general public.
Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life????
