9 Forgotten '80s Movies That You've Probably Never Heard Of
8. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)
Now although I don't frequent Australian breakfast television programming as I feel these shows are actually detrimental to the intelligence and progress of humanity, I was drawn to a panel discussing a report on adult immaturity and the now infamous online douchebag Romeo Rose. And right in the middle of this discussion, panelist and 2UE radio personality Mike Jeffreys OUT OF NOWHERE throws in a Buckaroo Banzai reference and immortal line: "wherever you go, there you are." The TV host's reaction was priceless. And that's also the general reaction I get from anyone whenever I simply mention the epic title. This "jurassic" seminal sci-fi masterpiece stars Robocop himself, Peter Weller, with Christopher Lloyd and - yes - a young Jeff Goldblum. It tells the tale of Neurosurgeon, Physicist, Test Pilot, Adventurer and Rock Star Buckaroo Banzai, who - along with his band the Hong Kong Cavaliers - saves the world from inter-dimensional aliens called "Red Lectoids" from Planet Ten. Ed Wood, eat your heart out. Now although upon research I have discovered it has become a cult hit among lovers of sci-fi and recently celebrated its 25 Anniversary with a re-release on dvd, it still makes the list because outside of us nerds, the general public have no idea of its existence. I am also honestly shocked that "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai" has yet to receive the reboot/remake treatment (give it time) but considering that the only people (in this country anyway) who even know it was made are hardcore movie buffs like me, I shouldn't be too surprised, really.
Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life????
