When it comes to Twin Peaks fans, there is no middle ground regarding Fire Walk With Me. They either love it or hate it. Regardless, Chris Isaak's character, FBI Agent Chester Desmond, is one of the finer points in the movie. As a contrast to Kyle MacLachlan's inherently likeable and metaphysical Agent Cooper, Isaak plays Desmond as more reserved, a bit smug, and more obstinate. In any other mystery he'd be a perfect fit, but in the Twin Peaks universe he's even more bizarre than the characters we've come to know and love on the show. It's almost tragic that we only get a half hour of Chet Desmond pairing up with Kiefer Sutherland's oddball partner Sam Stanley before Chris Isaak literally disappears from the film. Only in a David Lynch film.
