9 Harry Potter Plot Holes That Actually Have Simple Fixes
2. The Unbreakable Vow Should Have Been Used So Much More - The Half Blood Prince
Plot Hole: Our first experience with the unbreakable vow is in The Half Blood Prince when Bellatrix Lestrange casts one between Snape and Narcissa Malfoy. When Harry finds out about this he tells his trusty best friend Ron Weasley, whose reaction to the news gives us the realisation of how serious an unbreakable vow is: if someone breaks it, they die.
It is such a powerful spell, maybe even one of the most powerful, that it makes you wonder why it wasn't used more. It's understandable why the good guys never use it to pledge their allegiance to their cause, but it doesn't seem to make sense why Lord Voldemort wouldn't use it with his followers to make sure they never cross him.
You can't help thinking that if he did use it, maybe he could have won the wizarding war and caught double-crossing Snape before it was too late.
Answer: The simple answer is: Lord Voldemort is too stuck up. Think about it, He-who-shall-not-be-named was an arrogant man who took the time to split his soul into 7 Horcruxes but didn't realise until it was too late that a teenager had destroyed most of them.
You-Know-Who's biggest downfall was not that he could not love, it was that he was too arrogant. Too arrogant to win the wizarding war and too arrogant to realise his loyal followers were not so loyal. If he ever comes back again, maybe he will learn from his mistakes... third time is the charm right?
