9 Harry Potter Plot Holes That Actually Have Simple Fixes

1. Fred And George Were Very Blasé About Ron Sharing His Bed Each Night - The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Plot Hole: This plot twist has infuriated fans for years and was the inspiration for this very list. The Marauder's Map is probably one of the coolest magical objects in the HP universe. It is a comprehensive map of Hogwarts castle, that shows everybody's whereabouts, secret passageways and when in the wrong hands verbally abuses the reader.

The map is the creation of James Potter and his crew but when we are first introduced to it, it belongs to the mischievous Weasley twins who stole the map from Filch in their first year at Hogwarts - ever the high achievers.

In our main character's third year of Hogwarts a discovery is made: Ron's family rat Scabbers is actually thought-to-be-dead Peter Pettigrew. Since this plot twist was first revealed, fans of the books and movies have complained about the clear mistake: Why didn't the twins ever notice another man's name sleeping in the bed of their youngest brother each night?

Fan reactions to this plot hole range from fury to memes in which fans call the twins "allies" of the LGBTQ+ community. Which, I have no doubt they are, but I don't think that is the reason they never noticed Peter Pettigrew's name on the map...

Answer: Peter was prepared for someone owning the map.

Peter Pettigrew was part of James Potter's gang. He was also one of the makers of the Marauder's Map, and although Pettigrew is known to be the stupid and cowardly one of the group he was smart enough to become an animagi.

Therefore Peter would have been smart enough to realise that when he got to Hogwarts, someone there may have The Marauder's Map and might get suspicious of two boy's names appearing in the same bed each night. He may have even overheard the Weasley twins talk about the map while he lived at The Burrow each summer.

One of the ways Peter goes about staying undetected include running around the castle at night, which incidentally is how Harry discovers him one night (as Harry becomes obsessed with the map spending most of his time addicted to reading it). Peter also goes missing a lot, with Ron not being able to find Scabbers and blaming it on Hermione's cat for most of their third year! Very clever Peter.

FYI Crookshank's never does get the apology Ron promised.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
