9 Heroic Cats That Saved The Day In Horror Movies

8. Jonesy - Alien (1979)

For millions of viewers, feline crew member Jones (fondly known as Jonesy) is the unsung hero of the classic Alien movie. Not only is he one of the first Nostromo passengers to have a direct encounter with the Xenomorph life form, but he is also the only other survivor once the events of the first film wrap up. Sure, Jonesy didn't fire a single shot at the alien, but his support came in a much more subtle and endearing manner.

Try to picture that scenario. You live in a dystopian future where planet colonization and deep-space missions are an everyday occurrence; you are even used to going into hyper-sleep for years if necessary. Nonetheless, one of the last shreds of normality available for the crew of the Nostromo is the delightful presence of furry officer Jonesy.

By the end of the film, Ripley finds out that the cat survived and this motivates her to fight even harder. Saving Jonesy might seem like an unpractical decision, she could even have opened the feline's cage and seized the distraction to make her escape. But it's the strength that Jonesy imbues into Ripley's spirit what ultimately allows them both to flee (mostly) unharmed.
