9 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Indiana Jones

7. Indy's Lack Of Professionalism (Archaeology Edition)

indyarchaeology We've already questioned Indy's motives for running, jumping, swinging and punching his way through the world of Archaeology, but what about his methods? It should come as no surprise that they are pretty shoddy as well. Even though many archaeologists have adopted Indy as a sort of torchbearer for their profession (and seriously, who wouldn't?) he€™s been criticised for being more of a €œlooter€ rather than a careful scientist. Even industry magazine Archaeology, which bestows the Indy Spirit Awards, described Jones as €œa horrible archaeologist but a great diplomat for archaeology.€ From what we see in the films, it appears as though Indy has a complete disregard for conventional practices and is completely ignorant of the theory and ethics of the science. The opening scene of Raiders Of The Lost Ark sees Indy enter what seems to be an ancient and undisturbed Peruvian temple. He has no interest in any of the booby traps or artifacts, things that should be an archaeologist€™s wet dream. In fact, he consistently destroys such examples of immeasurable historical value. Still not convinced? Name one other archaeologist whose toolkit solely comprises a bullwhip and revolver.
