9 Horror Movie Franchises That Literally Do The Same Thing Repeatedly

8. Final Destination - The Same Character Archetypes

Saw 2
New Line Cinema

Final Destination is a series that doesn't get the recognition it deserves in the horror community. Nestled mainly between the meta-heavy gloss of the post-Scream world and the grit of Saw's body horror, each film in the series revolves around a group of people who survive a major disaster, only to be picked off by Death in elaborate ways in the order in which they were supposed to die.

Whilst the films become increasingly more gruesome as the series progresses, the opening gimmick of a large disaster unfolding in front of an audience's eyes is something that remains consistent throughout the franchise. More importantly, the specific ways in which people cheat death and their subsequent reactions to it all continue to pop up from entry to entry in the franchise.

Each entry to the Final Destination franchise has a set of character traits that range from someone not believing in what has happened and who laughs off the subsequent developments, those who immediately begin spouting off about spiritual and religious conspiracy theories, to those who are able to follow a breadcrumb trail and work out the connections between what is unfolding.

Likewise, Tony Todd coming in as The Devil to scare the survivors a little with a damning warning, and tropes revolving around death working in a specific order, and characters figuring out how to get it to permanently 'skip' them leave everything feeling a little bit samey after a while.
