9 Horror Movie Franchises That Literally Do The Same Thing Repeatedly

5. Paranormal Activity - Duvets, Kitchen Utensils And Tech Gimmicks

Love it or hate it, the Paranormal Activity franchise is one of the true behemoths of modern horror cinema. With the first film being released all the way back in 2007 and becoming the most successful film of all time based on its return of nearly $200 million against a post-production budget of just $200,000, the series revolves around a number of houses and families being haunted by a paranormal spirit.

Attempting to bring the found footage genre into the modern era, each and every film in the franchise relies on showing its footage through high tech security cameras, webcams or expensive looking production equipment, a trope that remains remarkably consistent through the series. Hell, the need for tech gimmicks got so bad that one movie even squeezed scares out of an Xbox Kinect.

As well as repeating the same method of showing the audience the action, or lack thereof in the case of so much of the Paranormal Activity series, the franchise also has a tendency to begin repeating the same sort of tactics to show when something spooky is going down.

From duvets being lightly tugged off someone, to entire crockery sets being thrown around a kitchen, there's practically a checklist of things audiences are looking out for whenever a new Paranormal Activity opens on yet another upper class home.
