9 Horror Movie Plot Points Secretly Introduced Earlier Than You Realised

4. The Thing - Foreign Language Giveaways

Speaking of things getting lost in translation we couldn’t NOT mention The Thing. The opening sequence that sees what appears to be just a husky running through the snow, being chased after by a helicopter and shot at, tells us straight away that the dog is not what it seems.

What the Norwegians shout at the American crew of course isn’t subtitled, but translates basically to “Get the hell away from that thing. That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real!”

This is a two-in one revelation: firstly that the dog is actually a monster, and secondly that the monster’s power is the ability to imitate other creatures. Being bold enough to give away vital plot points early on in a movie - never mind in the very first sequence - should always deserve a bit of attention.

Admittedly without this information yelled at us we catch on pretty quickly, it’s not a movie-long mystery what the nature of the alien is. Regardless of this, it's a nice Easter Egg.
