The Exorcist is one of the most popular and successful horror movies of all time, as well as being the first horror movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Released in 1973, The Exorcist's special effects and subject matter were groundbreaking, and, like all good horror movies, countless attempts were made to ban it in order to prevent the corruption of innocent children.

Thankfully, none of them succeeded, and The Exorcist has become one of the most iconic horror movies ever made.

While there are a number of scenes that fans will excitedly describe, the scene that everyone will talk about until the end of time is the scene in which Regan MacNeil, possessed by the demon Pazuzu, spins her head around 180 degrees on her shoulders, and spews violent profanity at her own mother.

It's a scene that shocked the world, and left an untold number of mothers clutching their pearls.

In fact, even nearly 50 years on, the movie's significance - and this particular scene - is still widely discussed today. That's the sort of staying power that money can't buy.
