9 Horror Movies That Couldn't Live Up To Their Awesome Opening

3. Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2

There's something intrinsically creepy about cornfields. Connected to farms full of slaughtering utensils for animals and prime locations for aliens to leave spooky messages, they've always been considered inherently unsettling in horror movie lore since anyone can remember, and Jeepers Creepers 2 capitalises on that in excellent fashion. Or at least it does in its opening moments. The rest of the film is debatable, really.

Having the creeper disguise himself as a scarecrow is the most genius move that this franchise has pulled, and his stalking through the cornrows is about as realistically scary the Jeepers Creepers movies get. These aren't quality films by any stretch, but at least Jeepers Creepers 2 in particular can say that it got at least one thing right with its predatory sky monster racking up his cheat day snacks in broad daylight. Sorry farmhands, Creeper needs a treat.

Interestingly, the rest of the movies generally have banging openings too, before devolving into... well, Jeepers Creepers territory. The first film in particular set this standard up with its nerve-jangling, rickety truck sequence, and proved almost serviceable as a whole because of its great opening. Quite how we go to Jeepers Threepers's messy film work from there is anybody's guess.
