9 Horror Movies That Couldn't Live Up To Their Awesome Opening

4. The Collection

The Collection

The Collection is the sequel to cult classic The Collector, and surprisingly manages to hold its own as a modern follow up considering the standard we've come to expect from such creations recently. Bringing back the masked madman from the original that lays out a set of grisly traps for a family and an unfortunate opportunist robber to work through, the ol' collector is up to his usual tricks in the opening of The Collection. So of course, there's plenty of blood.

When Elena and her friends go to a secret party, they get way more than they bargained for when the Collector shows up too. Having rigged the whole place full of traps, we're treated to some close-up, swooping shots of mechanisms as Elena accidentally sets his hard work into motion and unleashes a thresher on the dance floor of people. Those that escape are then cut to pieces by trip wired booby traps, and eventually crushed under a lowered ceiling that turns the party going massive into pulping raspberry jam.

It's a hell of a set piece, and no wonder that nothing else in the film doesn't quite hit the same level of maniacal genius in the long run.
