9 Horror Movies That Forced You To Answer Impossible Questions

4. The Invitation - How Do You React If You Think Your Friends Are In A Cult?

It Follows Sex
Drafthouse

It's one thing to get invited to dinner by your old friends for a reunion when you haven't seen them for years on end. It's entirely another when said friend is your ex-wife who disappeared after losing your only child, inviting you and all your friends over to meet her new husband and talk about a cult initiation they went through in the time they've been gone. The Invitation is a slow burning exploration of this very specific, very weird set up, with protagonist Will consistently questioning whether he and his new girlfriend are safe surrounded by these whacky characters.

This one only gets more impossible as it goes on, with red herrings and agonising choices to be made to discern the reality of what's happening - Will is played off as paranoid, aggressive, and suspicious in all the worst ways, but it's only when everyone is about to take a sip of poisoned wine that he can prove his accusations as true. What do you do? Do you agonise over what could be happening? Do you flip out like Will does and potentially ruin your social circle and distance yourself from relationships? Do you just leave, letting your friends succumb to whatever fate might be waiting for them?

Without knowing the truth for certain, it's a choice made all the tougher by its ridiculous variables.
