Lots of these choices boil down to life or death, whether that be through sacrifice or choosing someones fate, and whilst vampire movie 30 Days of Night results in the same high stakes (get it, because its about vampires, ha) result as our protagonist ends up dying to save his town, the question of quite how he got to that state is far more interesting. It boils down to the internal choice of whether you could be turned into a vampire to save everything you love - losing your humanity and becoming a big old town-burning d*ck in the process - or watch it all get destroyed and continue to live out your days cold and alone in the aftermath.

Sheriff Eben has his hand forced when the vampires begin setting his town ablaze at the end of the film to cover up their month-long attack on the Alaskan settlement, knowing that he can't save his ex-wife and a child as your average human. It's here that we're put into his shoes and are forced to ask ourselves whether we'd change our very existence in order to defeat the evil creatures plaguing our home, or let it all go for the sake of survival.

Even if you do take the vampire route as Eben does, you then have the choice of continuing to live on as the very murderous monster you've spent a month trying to wipe out or to die - with nothing coming easy by the end of the movie.
