In the same vein as 'gameshow' style horrors like Would You Rather, 13 Sins, and Exam, Cheap Thrills is a film that posits just how far you'd go to get a tasty little prize - namely a huge stinking pile of cash that could change life as you know it. When old friends Craig and Vince run into each other in a bar, they're soon pulled into a game of dares by a crazy-rich couple celebrating wife Violet's birthday, with the desperate pair committing all sorts of acts that escalate in danger for the reward of thousands of dollars.
The most interesting aspect of Cheap Thrills is that the two friends are pit against each other, resulting in each negotiating lower prices to undercut the other for the pleasure of cutting off their own finger or cheating on their wife. The whole exercise brings around the self-questioning of how far you'd really go to secure the bag - could you ruin the relationship with your partner? Disfigure yourself? Go as far as to actually murder your own friend?
