9 Huge Predictions For Black Panther
5. It Will Revolve Around Bucky
Despite existing in a much wider universe, Black Panther will largely be a self-contained story, as has been the case with the majority of Phase Three (with the exception of Civil War). This is exactly how an origin story should be, allowing the focus to remain on T’Challa, his internal and external conflicts, and what it takes to be king.
Yet it would be almost impossible for the 18th instalment in the franchise to be completely without ties to the larger MCU, one of which will be Bucky.
Since the end of Civil War the former Winter Soldier has been on ice, hiding in Wakanda at the invitation of T’Challa. This is where the problems will arise. Ulysses Klaue boasts to be the only man who has ever seen Wakanda and made it out alive, yet now the king has brought a fugitive from the law within their walls voluntarily.
This echoes the ‘Nation Under Our Feet’ comic arc, in which the Black Panther is forced to defend his throne against multiple parties who aren’t happy with his perceived allegiance to The Avengers over Wakanda. In this case it will Killmonger who takes exception to Bucky’s presence, mounting an attack against T’Challa’s reign.
