9 Incredible Pieces Of Concept Art From Cancelled Superhero Films

7. Corinthian (Sandman)

Superman: Flyby
Warner Bros

Neil Gaiman’s critically-acclaimed Sandman has been threatening to find its way to cinema for the last two decades, but the latest reports suggest the mooted adaptation is back in development hell following the departures of co-producer Joseph Gordon-Levitt and screenwriter Eric Heisserer.

If the project ever materialises, it's unlikely to be the same version Gaiman pitched to Warner Bros in the late '90s, complete with concept art by Jill Thompson. The legendary comic scribe shared these illustrations on Twitter several years ago.

The sketch which really stands out is Thompson's take on Corinthian, a personified nightmare with rows of teeth where his eyes should be.

Although this particular take on Sandman is unlikely to ever see the light of day, plans for an adaptation aren't dead just yet. When Heisserer dropped out of the project, he opined that the property would be better served by a big-budget HBO television series, and he might just be onto something there.
