9 Incredible Pieces Of Concept Art From Cancelled Superhero Films
3. Kata-Zor (Superman: Flyby)
Henry Cavill almost made his divisive debut as Superman several years before 2013's Man of Steel. The actor was in line to play the Last Son of Krypton in JJ Abrams's Superman: Flyby, one of several ill-fated attempts to return to character to the big screen post-Christopher Reeve.
Abrams's proposed reinvention of Superman was almost as radical as what Darren Aronofsky wanted to do with Batman. Kal-El's origin was altered, Lex Luthor was a UFO-obsessed CIA agent and Krypton wasn't destroyed completely.
Rather than sending his son to Earth because his home world is about to explode, Jor-El does so to protect him from his evil brother Kata-Zor, who is depicted in this piece of concept art.
When Flyby's script leaked online, Abrams took a lot of flack for deconstructing Superman's origin, but the movie itself would have had its moments. For instance, there's a battle between Supes and a group of rival Kryptonians which lays waste to part of Metropolis, Gotham, Paris and Giza.
