9 Insane Movie Theories That Actually Make Sense

8. Gandalf Actually Told The Fellowship To Use The Eagles In The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

One of the biggest criticisms faced by The Lord Of The Rings movies has to do with Frodo's ill-judged decision not to use the Eagles - giant, bird-like creatures that Gandalf the Grey has the ability to summon now and again - in order to fly to Mount Doom and drop the One Ring into the fires below, thus completing the mission in 2.5 hours.

Why didn't Gandalf just let Frodo know that this was an opinion? Better yet, why didn't he suggest it when things started getting rough? Or, hey, in the first place, when they were together at the Shire? Surely Gandalf would have mentioned it once?

According to one - albeit quite humorous - theory, he did. Just so happens that his little hint went over Frodo's (and the entire fellowship's) heads.

Remember that scene in the Mines of Moria, when Gandalf faced off agains the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad Dum? The iconic moment in which he yelled "You shall not pass!" before he's dragged down into the abyss below by the great fiery demon? Remember what his last words were? You do, don't you?

That's right: "Fly, you fools!"

Or, in other words: "Don't bother trying to get to Mount Doom by foot, guys, because this clearly isn't working out; hitch a ride with those Eagles instead!" It might seem like a somewhat loose theory, all things considered, but there are a lot of fans who really believe that Gandalf's last words were instructions to take flight. And it makes sense.
