9 Insane Times Movies Stupidly Hid Actors Behind Prosthetics
7. Hugo Weaving - Captain America: The First Avenger
One of the many, many actors who have notoriously spoken out against Marvel since performing in one of their movies, you can't blame Hugo Weaving for being a bit miffed considering just how daft his Red Skull makeup made him look.
The always-great screen villain was a perfect casting choice for the scenes where he could actually play up his signature, over-the-top menace, but all that was lost once he fully transformed into his alter-ego. The design itself looks fine enough, but the perpetual scowl ensured that the Red Skull essentially had one facial expression for the second half of The First Avenger.
It's no coincidence that Cap's arch nemesis becomes a far more forgettable villain once his mask comes off, as not only does the character become another generic superhero punching bag, but the gravitas Hugo Weaving brought to the role is stifled under his inability to move his face.
The fact that anybody could pretty much have been under the makeup was cemented entirely with the recent Infinity War, which recast the role without a good chunk of the audience realising.
