7. Alex Gets Hit By A Brick - Final Destination 2

It might be foolish to get invested in characters from a horror franchise, as by the very nature of the genre they're always in danger of dying, but few have received a death as throwaway as Final Destination's original hero, Alex.

The first person in the series to successfully cheat death, the original flick is all about Alex and girlfriend Clear finding a way to stop the grim reaper coming for them, landing on the solution of making it 'skip' them and move onto the next victim. Though they postpone their demise for a while, it seemingly catches up to them in the final scene, but both the fates of Clear and Alex are left ambiguous.

The first sequel, however, reveals just what happened to the pair, with Alex dying and Clear surviving by confining herself to a padded psychiatric hospital. Alex's death is confined to a news report, which explains he remained in his own home following the events of the first movie, eventually being killed by a rogue brick falling on his head in an alley.

In the context of the franchise, being bludgeoned by a random brick isn't that out of place, but it doesn't really gel with how smart and careful the character had been before then. It's played almost like a joke, and makes the struggle of the first film kinda pointless.
