9. Score
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0AyjQoM1TA Written by the genius Italian soundtrack composer - Riz Ortolani - the score to Cannibal Holocaust is lush, sweeping and evocative. When I first watched the film, the music was the thing that I remembered most. The beautiful main tune is not a horror movie theme, and to me it seems to be a plea for humanity amongst all the inhumanity in the film. For tense parts of the movie there is a stark synth score which is more horror-esque. However, Ortolani was an expert in scoring Mondo movies - he wrote the Oscar nominated song 'More' from Mondo Cane, he also wrote the scores for many more Jacopetti and Prosperi directed Mondo movies including Addio Zio Tom and Africa Addio. Ortolani's work in Cannibal Holocaust is much more redolent of a Mondo movie than a mere horror film.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
