9 Lame Opening Scenes In Otherwise Great Movies

Iron Man's tale is that of a war profiteer realizing the horrors of his business and making right what has gone wrong. But before that happens, we need to see Iron Man as a war profiteer.

This first scene is not viewed as that outrageous nowadays by the majority of people, but like the first scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, this scene will do nothing but rot with time.

The film begins with Tony Stark going to Afghanistan and, to impress soldiers there, he blows up a large mountain. Iron Monger is what the villain calls himself later, but it applies to Tony here. As does War Machine.

It has the same tone as a film featuring a "hero" gleefully destroying parts of Vietnam (which is where Tony Stark was in the original comics). Even for a film about a man undergoing a redemption arc, this scene is so over-the-top militaristic and tone deaf, it's unsalvageable, which is especially upsetting as the rest of the film is so good. Whenever the entire MCU is rebooted, hopefully this scene will be skipped.
