8. Heimdall
While Jane Foster is set for a much bigger role moving forward, the same can’t be said of a fair few Thor characters in the MCU. Until Taika Waititi got his hands on the franchise, the Asgardian was going nowhere slowly.
As a result, there’s a fair few Jane adjacent characters who’ll be making the cut here, with Heimdall the first. Idris Elba’s public popularity rose during his time in the MCU, but not because of anything he did in Asgard. While his stock continued to rise as an actor this past decade, he was lightly used as a plot device in the MCU.
Elba could have played some major characters in the MCU, but it’s not just missing out on his potential that means Heimdall deserved more screen time. The character himself is a hugely iconic part of Thor’s world, but it seems like that’s the only reason he was added in the first place.
It’s like they knew they couldn’t cut him, but at the same time, they didn’t have a role for him either. Ragnarok tried to give him his own quest, but that seemed a little off too. His death in Infinity War felt like a mercy killing.
