9 More Actors Who Begged For Their Movie Characters To Die
1. Drew Barrymore - Scream
When Kevin Williamson’s dark, witty spec script Scary
Movie landed on Nightmare on Elm Street helmer/ horror movie maestro Wes Craven’s
desk way back in the early nineties, it was a match made in genre film heaven.
Combining Craven’s track record as a masterful horror helmer and Williamson’s
fresh, hip writing, the resultant slasher film phenomenon Scream
single-handedly revived the subgenre for a decade and spawned some of the horror
genre’s best films (and also Scream 3).
But the series’ iconic resilient final girl Sidney Prescott wasn’t always going to be the star. Originally Craven wanted Drew Barrymore in the main role, whilst Alicia Silverstone was tapped to play the gruesomely offed Casey Becker in a move designed to throw audiences. That is, until Barrymore called back excited by the film—and demanding the role of the swiftly murdered first victim, cementing her place in horror movie history in the process.
Also it freed her up to make Charlie’s Angels instead of Scream 3.
