For the first two movies in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley's Rey was on a mission to discover exactly who she was and who here parents were. Having been told that her parents were nobody of any significance, that faux truth was flipped on its head in The Rise of Skywalker - with it there that Rey found out that she was related to Emperor Palpatine.

This nefarious Sith Lord was the paternal grandfather of Rey, and it was at his order that both of Rey's parents were murdered after refusing to join Palp's dark and sinister ways.

Upon finding out her true heritage - and realising that her parents hid her in order to keep her away from gramps - Rey gets to indulge in some good old revenge when she uses Luke and Leia's lightsabers and a bunch of goodwill from numerous fallen Jedi to finally put Palpatine down for good during Episode IX's tumultuous finale.

That battle would take the life of both Palpatine and Rey, mind, but thankfully Ben Solo was on hand to bring Rey back - even if that did cost him his own life.
