Captain America: Civil War: 9 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Proves Iron Man Will Die

1. Robert Downey, Jr. Has Talked Openly About Hanging Up The Suit

Killing off a major, iconic character is hard. Not only is there the pressure of doing it right, but it requires getting an experienced, likely influential actor to agree to halt their steady flow of cash. Han Solo's death was incredibly impactful, but hardly a surprise off the back of decades of talk about how Harrison Ford was keen to kill him off, while Batman V Superman heralded Superman's return fifteen minutes after killing him so Henry Cavill could keep doing whatever he does (it's not acting). That's why Iron Man will keep breathing, surely? Downey, Jr. has simply too much sway. Perhaps not. Speaking to Empire on the set of Civil War, Downey, Jr. talked about his ageing and how that would impact the role, saying "I also recognise that I€™ll be turning 50 by the time I promote this movie. The clock is ticking down on the amount of memories and participation that I would allow myself and not embarrass the medium with." Those aren't the words of someone gearing up for more movies, but rather looking for a way to wrap things up respectfully. It's probably no coincidence that the last two movies starring Iron Man ended with Tony Stark quitting, and now he's passing the big 5-O RDJ may have been keen for something a bit more resolute. It's been nice knowing you Tony. Do you think Iron Man will die in Captain America: Civil War? Or will he live to quip another day? Share you hot takes down in the comments.
