9 Movie Biopics Despised By Their Own Subjects

3. Hunter "Patch" Adams (Patch Adams)

patch adams Patch Adams is a Godawful movie - few people will argue with that, least of all the actual guy the film is based on, Hunter "Patch" Adams. The movie depicts him as a buffoonish medical student who tries to bring laughter to hospitalised children, believing that laughter can help treat medical conditions by giving people hope. The real Adams said that, "After the movie, there wasn't a single positive article about our work or me. There were dumb, stupid, meaningless things...it made my children cry. I knew the movie would do this...I would become a funny doctor. Imagine how shallow that is relative to who I am. I just got back from taking 17 clowns to Cuba, which was hit by the worst hurricane in their history." Adams also criticised Williams' performance, noting that, " made $21 million for four months of pretending to be me, in a very simplistic version, and did not give $10 to my free hospital. Patch Adams, the person, would have, if I had Robin's money, given all $21 million to a free hospital in a country where 80 million cannot get care." To this day, he claims that the movie was supposed to pay for his hospital, and still hasn't coughed up the funds. Naturally, this one's pretty personal for 'ol Patch.
