9 Movie Franchises That Awkwardly Continued When Their Stars Bailed

9. Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)

Dumb and Dumber It's nearly impossible to get into the heads of movie executives on most days, but in this instance, it's truly incomprehensible: let's make a sequel to Dumb and Dumber, but how about we do it as a prequel, and instead of having Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, let's, like, not have those actors at all? That's presumably the pitch that went down on one glorious day in Hollywood, because that's the movie that we eventually got when 2003 rolled around. And Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd has to be just about one of the worst and most ill-judged sequels (or prequels, I guess) of all-time. Carrey and Daniels were what made the first movie so good - why would anyone think that removing those two from the equation could result in a worthy sequel? The actors - Derek Richardson and Eric Olsen - are nowhere near up to the challenge, and it's awkward as hell to watch.
