9 Movie Franchises That Completely Spiraled Out Of Control

9. Child's Play

You probably know Child€™s Play as that killer doll movie that gave you nightmares as a kid, but after starting out pretty horrifying, each sequel got more and more comedic. 1998€™s Bride Of Chuckywas when things really got out of control. In this one we meet Tiffany, a former girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray (the serial killer whose soul is stuck in the Chucky doll). Tiffany€™s soul is also transferred into a doll, and the two have a seriously messed up, Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship. The movie is full of weird sex jokes, meta humour, and dialogue like €œMartha Stewart can kiss my shiny plastic butt!€ There€™s barely even any attempt to be scary anymore, with the movie€™s first kill being played completely for laughs. We€™re now just watching a strange dark comedy with talking dolls. The film ends by just saying screw it and turning the insanity up to 11 when Tiffany actually gives birth to Chucky€™s child. Yes, the two dolls have sex and give birth to a little doll baby. The sequel, Seed Of Chucky follows the child doll as he goes out searching for his parents, completing the weirdest little family in cinema. The original Child's Play had a little bit of humour to it, with Chucky insulting his victims in a way that was funny in a dark way. But there were rarely actual gags or anything that was too silly, and the whole thing was taken at least somewhat seriously. It was a horror film first with some occasional comedy thrown in, but by these later movies, the comedy came first with some horror thrown in. It€™s no wonder Don Mancini decided to reboot the franchise in 2013 with Curse Of Chucky, a successful and scary sequel, which tries pretty hard to gloss over how absurd the movies had become.
